Soldiers Memorial Garden

On the corner of Angas and Belair Roads, right beside Mitcham Library, Soldiers Memorial Gardens is a short, tidy stroll past war memorials, lawns and a creek. It suits a slow sniff on lead more than a big run.

Lead rules

The City of Mitcham requires dogs to be on lead in the gardens. Across the council area, dogs on footpaths and streets need a lead no longer than 2 metres unless signs say otherwise.

The walk

Sealed concrete and paved paths wind past the memorials, manicured lawns and a sensory garden, with a small creek running through. Big canopy trees give good shade, and there's a shelter if the weather turns.

A drinking fountain sits on the Angas Road side, along with toilets, seating, tables and bike racks. Parking is marked near the precinct.

Max: People come to memorial gardens to sit quietly. Keep the lead short around the monuments and pick up straight away.

Make a day of it

Coffee is close at The Other Ostrich Cafe, and Mortlock Park in Colonel Light Gardens gives you a second walk.

When to go

Flat, sealed paths and plenty of shade make this an easy pick for older dogs and warm afternoons. Treat it as a short stroll paired with coffee rather than a long outing.
