Pet policy
Off-lead across the general park under effective control; on lead within 20 metres of the playground, BMX track and organised sport (City of Mitcham).
Mortlock Park, off Sturt Avenue in Colonel Light Gardens, is a big open oval where dogs can come off lead. The City of Mitcham allows off-leash exercise across the general park, as long as your dog is under effective control.
Leads and the off-lead area
Clip the lead back on within 20 metres of the playground, the BMX track and any organised sport or school activity. On a busy afternoon those zones can spread, so watch what is happening on the fields.
The walk
Paved paths run around the perimeter, with the sports fields filling the middle. Mature trees shade the edges, while the open centre gets full sun.
There are drinking fountains and taps in the reserve, and bins on site. Parking is off West Parkway, including a small off-street car park.

When to go
Come when the fields are quiet, since organised sport brings the lead rule into force around it. Dogs with a reliable recall get the most out of all that open grass.
