Simpson's Creek Walk

Simpson's Creek Walk is the quiet way to walk a dog in Brunswick Heads, a shaded creekside path that sees far less traffic than the main river and beach paths. Dogs are welcome on lead along the council walkways.

Lead rules

Byron Shire Council requires dogs on a lead on the creek path and the adjoining riverside reserves. Dogs are banned from nearby Brunswick Heads Nature Reserve, so do not stray into it.

The walk

The path is compacted gravel and brownstone, winding past tidal creek water, native trees and bank restoration work near the bowling club and caravan park. Heavy tree cover keeps it cooler than the beachfront.

Birdlife is the main entertainment, and the slow pace suits dogs who prefer sniffing to running.

Water and parking

There are no dog bowls or pet bins on the narrow track itself, so carry water and bags. Parking is near the pedestrian bridge, The Terrace and the bowling club end.

Make a day of it

Finish at Footbridge Cafe, or grab a coffee at Old Maids in town.

Choose it on a hot or windy day, when the open beach is harsh and the creek's shade is worth more.
