Sanctuary Point Foreshore Walk

Water views across St Georges Basin follow you for most of this flat foreshore track in Sanctuary Point, also mapped as the Basin Walking Track. It links a reserve off Walmer Avenue with Palm Beach Reserve off Greville Avenue, about 40 minutes each way, and dogs are welcome on a lead.

Lead rules

Shoalhaven City Council requires dogs on lead along the track. Some beach sections along the way are off limits to dogs, including Palm Beach and Red Head Point, so stay on the path there.

The walk

The surface is a mix of flat dirt and sandy track with sections of non-slip timber boardwalk. Stretches through native bushland give good natural shade, broken by open foreshore parks.

Watch for pelicans and other birdlife on the water.

Getting started

Both ends have car parks, reached from Walmer Avenue at one end and Greville Avenue at the other.

Each reserve has toilets, picnic tables and barbecues, but there is nothing along the track itself, so carry water and bags.

Max: Two beaches on this walk do not allow dogs. Keep the lead short where the track meets the sand.

When to go

The shaded bush sections make it workable in warmer weather, and the flat track suits dogs of most ages.
