Roy Amer Reserve

Roy Amer Reserve wraps a flat, paved loop of about a kilometre around a central lake in Oakden. Dogs stay on lead the whole way, and the birdlife on the water is the main event.

Lead rules

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield designates Roy Amer Reserve as a dog on-leash area at all times. Water hens and other birds feed along the banks, so a short lead helps.

The walk

The path is asphalt and concrete, smooth enough for prams, and crosses a footbridge along the way. Grassy banks, mature trees and a fenced playground line the route.

Shade is patchy, coming from the trees and picnic shelters. Drinking fountains, bins and a council dog bag station are all in the reserve.

Getting started

Free off-street parking sits near the entries on Regent Street and Sir Ross Smith Boulevard. The Lakeside Café nearby is a popular stop before or after a lap.

When to go

One lap is short, so it suits older dogs and a quick morning outing. Do two or three laps if your dog needs more.
