Riflebutts Reserve

Riflebutts Reserve on Surfers Point Road in Prevelly pairs a grassy park with direct access to the beach, and dogs can run off lead in both. It is one of the Shire of Augusta Margaret River's dog exercise areas, with one firm exception at the playground.

Leads and the off-lead area

Dogs may be off lead across the reserve and along the adjoining beach exercise area, which runs south towards the public accessway at Papadakis Avenue. They are not allowed inside the children's playground at all.

Boundaries on this coast get adjusted from time to time, so check the shire signs at the beach access before you let go.

The walk

Paved footpaths and lawn give way to limestone and gravel tracks down to the sand, with the Indian Ocean in front of you. It is an easy switch from a run on the grass to a splash in the shallows.

The lawns have shade, benches, barbecues and toilets, but the coastal tracks are exposed to sun and wind. There are bins in the reserve, and parking right at the reserve off Surfers Point Road.

Best times on the Prevelly coast

Pepsi: Pack fresh water for after the beach, because the coastal tracks have nowhere shady to cool off.

Mornings and late afternoons suit this spot best, when the exposed tracks are cooler. It is a great fit for social dogs with good recall that love the water.
