Queens Park

Queens Park is 26 hectares of open grass set in a natural amphitheatre, and most of it is off-lead for dogs when the sports fields are free. It sits in the suburb of Queens Park beside Waverley and is managed as part of Centennial Parklands.

When the lead goes on

Greater Sydney Parklands lets dogs off lead under effective control across the park grounds and fields, except while the sports fields are in use.

Dogs must be on lead on the shared paths, cycle lanes and roads. They must also stay at least 10 metres from children's playgrounds and barbecue areas.

The walk

Sealed paths circle the fields, framed by old sandstone gateposts and towering figs. Mature trees around the edge give pockets of shade, but the middle is wide open.

Bins are spread through the grounds. Toilets are on the Darley Road side, and street parking wraps the perimeter, including Victoria Street, Queens Park Road and Darley Road.

Max: Check the fields before you unclip. If a game is on, that grass is not yours.

Refuel at Queens Park Kitchen, or try Bellagio Cafe in Waverley.

It is a daily meeting spot for local dogs, so it suits social ones. Bring water on hot days, as the open grass has little cover.
