Point Lonsdale to Queenscliff Beach Walk

Two lighthouses bookend this coastal stretch between Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff, with the Heads and the open bay in view most of the way. Dogs are welcome, but the summer beach ban decides when you go.

Leads and the off-lead area

The Borough of Queenscliffe allows dogs off lead all year at Narrows Beach, the stretch between Roddick Grove and Fraser Street. Everywhere else on the foreshore and beaches, keep the dog on a lead.

From 1 December to the end of February, dogs are not allowed on the beaches at all between 9am and 8pm. Outside those hours the normal rules apply.

Max: In summer, check the clock before you step onto the sand. Early mornings and evenings are the only beach windows.

The walk

It is a mixed route. Sandy ocean and bay beaches, which are easiest at low tide, run alongside crushed rock and concrete tracks and short boardwalk sections just above the sand.

If the tide is high or the summer ban is on, the tracks behind the beach keep you moving without touching the sand.

When to go

Autumn through spring gives you the whole route with the dog, beaches included. Plan around low tide for the firmest walking, and pack water for the dog.
