Robertson Park

On Fitzgerald Street at the Perth edge of Northbridge, Robertson Park gives inner-city dogs something rare: a legal off-lead area, set inside a leafy park of big old trees and rain gardens.

Leads and the off-lead area

The City of Vincent's dog exercise area is the north-east corner of the park, at Fitzgerald and Stuart Streets, south of Halvorson Hall. Dogs can run off the lead there unless a council-approved booked event is on.

Everywhere else in the park, the lead goes back on.

The walk

Concrete and paved paths run through the upgraded precinct, past tennis courts, community garden plots and native rain gardens. Mature trees and shade structures keep much of it cool.

There is a playground, benches and a barbecue area, with bins around the grounds.

Water and parking

Don't count on a tap near the exercise area, so carry water and a bowl. Parking is limited to the surrounding streets and the spaces by the tennis club.

Pepsi: Pack a collapsible bowl. After a run in the corner, a long drink under those big trees is the best bit.

Make a day of it

Braddock's Dispensary is nearby for coffee, or head to West End Deli for something longer.

It is a social hub for local dog owners, so it suits dogs that enjoy company and come back when called.
