Lime Kiln Bay Wetland

Mangrove boardwalks, a constructed wetland and royal spoonbills in the shallows set Lime Kiln Bay Wetland apart from a suburban loop. It lies in Peakhurst Heights, between Peakhurst, Oatley and Mortdale, rather than in Lugarno, and dogs must stay on lead.

Lead rules

Georges River Council requires dogs on lead at all times on the formed tracks and paths. The surrounding bushland is a wildlife protection area, so dogs must not leave the track.

The walk

The surface changes often, from paved shared paths to boardwalk over the wetland and mangroves, then dirt and gravel bush track. The walk connects with the Oatley Park bushland loop if you want to go further.

Open boardwalks alternate with shady stretches under tall eucalypts. Herons and honeyeaters are common, which makes it a great sniff walk.

Getting started

Street parking is available near the access points around the bay and Oatley Park. Bins are at the park edges and entry points, not out on the bush tracks.

Bubblers are sparse, so carry water and a bowl.

When to go

Cool mornings suit the open boardwalk stretches, and the shaded bush sections help in summer. It suits calm dogs that can pass wildlife without lunging.
