Palmerville Heritage Park Loop Path

On the edge of Evatt, off Owen Dixon Drive, Palmerville Heritage Park is one of the rare Canberra walks where the whole park is off-leash. Gravel paths and boardwalk loop through heritage trees and the traces of a 19th-century settlement.

Off-leash rules

The entire park is an off-leash area, provided your dog stays under effective control. Fencing runs along two sides and creeks and boggy ground edge another, which keeps most dogs close.

The loop

The main loop is about 1.8 to 2 km on compacted gravel and raised boardwalk, flat and easy going. Extra dirt tracks branch off if you want to wander further.

Interpretive signs along the way tell the story of the old estate.

What to bring

There is no water on the loop, and no toilets or cafe on site, so pack water and a bowl. Bins sit beside the small free car park at the entrance.

Mature trees shade most of the walk, which makes it a good summer choice, and autumn colour is a highlight.

Make a day of it

Rosie's at Evatt is handy for a coffee, and the Lake Ginninderra Loop Trail makes a longer paved walk for another day.

Who it suits

Regulars treat it as a friendly meeting place, so it suits social dogs that like to roam and sniff with company.
