Oaklands Wetland and Reserve

Oaklands Wetland on Oaklands Road is a stormwater wetland turned bird haven, with ponds, native reeds and river red gums. Dogs are welcome, but on lead and on the tracks at all times inside the wetland.

Lead rules

The City of Marion keeps the wetland on-lead to protect the waterbirds. Next door, Oaklands Estate Reserve allows off-lead exercise, except within 5 metres of the playground and the wetland.

Max: Waterbirds everywhere and a strict lead rule. Keep it short near the ponds and save the running for the reserve next door.

The walk

The loop mixes sealed concrete paths, hard-packed trail and boardwalk. It is flat and easy, fine for a pram or a slower dog.

Water and shade

Trees are still maturing, so shade comes and goes and parts of the loop are fully exposed. Bins are around the reserve, but dog bubblers on the wetland tracks are limited, so carry water.

Parking is easiest around Oaklands Estate Reserve and the recreation complex beside the wetland.

Stop for coffee at Strappers Cafe in Morphettville, or visit Glengowrie Small Dog Park if you have a little one.

Go early or late in summer, since the open sections heat up fast.
