Victoria Park

Big old elms and pines, wide lawns and an unfenced off-lead area make Victoria Park one of Ballarat's roomier dog walks. The park is in Newington rather than Wendouree, and the lead rule depends on where you stand.

Leads and the off-lead area

The City of Ballarat has a designated off-lead area in the park, but it is not fenced.

Dogs must be on lead on or within 10 metres of shared paths, walking tracks and waterways. The lead also goes back on within 50 metres of play spaces and organised events.

The walk

Paths mix sealed asphalt with crushed gravel and loop past historic sporting ovals and the inclusive playspace. Mature trees and a few shelters give some shade, but parts of the loop are exposed.

Drinking fountains with low dog bowls sit near the inclusive playspace and the barbecue areas. Bins are at the main entries and car parks, and there is on-site parking near the play area.

Max: The 10 metre rule catches people out. Clip on before you step onto a path, not when you reach it.

Check for organised events before you go, since they widen the on-lead zone. Dogs with solid recall get the most from the open space.
