Myilly Point Heritage Precinct Walk

Myilly Point, on the Larrakeyah headland just out of the Darwin CBD, is a short heritage stroll past rare 1930s raised houses such as Burnett House and Audit House. Dogs are fine here on a lead, since City of Darwin rules keep them leashed in public reserves and heritage areas that are not signed for off-lead exercise.

The walk

Sealed footpaths and landscaped precinct paths wind through gardens with wide views over Fannie Bay and Darwin Harbour. The elevated spot catches the sea breeze, which helps in the tropical heat.

Manicured lawns surround the old houses, and there are grassed, shaded picnic spots near the playground.

Heat and water

Parts of the walk are fully exposed, so carry water and a bowl whatever the time of day. Bins sit near the playground and picnic areas.

Free parking is available nearby, off Burnett Place and Kahlin Avenue.

Max: Darwin footpaths heat up fast. If the concrete is too warm for your palm, it is too warm for paws.

When to go

Early morning or late afternoon, when the breeze is up and the paths are cooler. It suits a gentle walk with an older dog more than a big run.
