Munibung Hill Walking Tracks

Munibung Hill is the bush-covered rise behind Speers Point, and its tracks give dogs a proper uphill workout with views over Lake Macquarie. Dogs are welcome, but they stay on a leash the whole time.

The walk

These are natural bush tracks, not paths. Expect steep, rocky and eroded dirt sections, so good shoes help and it suits fit dogs more than elderly ones.

The reward is at the top, where the hill opens up to wide views across the lake and the surrounding shores. The hill falls under Lake Macquarie City Council.

What to carry

There are no bubblers, bins, toilets or picnic tables on the hill. Bring water and a bowl for the dog and take your bags home with you.

The bush canopy gives patchy shade, but the ridges and grassy clearings are exposed. Parking is on the residential streets at the base, around Milburn Circuit and Bindalang Circuit.

Max: Loose rock on the steep bits rolls underfoot. Keep the lead short on the way down so neither of you gets pulled.

Come down and let your dog run at the Speers Point Fenced Dog Park, then grab a coffee at Table 1 Espresso.

Go early in summer, before the exposed sections heat up.
