Mountain Creek Recreational Trail

The Mountain Creek Recreational Trail is a shady bush circuit through the conservation area west of the Glenfields estate, with natural tracks winding past forest and creek views. It reads as a quiet, on-leash nature walk rather than an off-leash run, and that is its appeal: a calm green escape close to the suburbs.

The walk

The route is a shady circuit, often two loops forming a figure-eight, over a mix of paved, gravel and compacted dirt bush tracks. Distance runs roughly 3 to 4 km depending on which loops you combine, graded easy and mostly flat, so it suits casual walkers and steady older dogs. Tree cover keeps it relatively cool, though the dirt sections can turn boggy and hold water after rain.

Leash status

Treat this as an on-leash walk, the whole way. The reserve works as a conservation corridor for swamp wallabies, echidnas and ground-dwelling birds, and Sunshine Coast Council rules for conservation land differ from open parkland, so keep your dog close and on the designated tracks. Dogs are also not allowed inside children's playgrounds or the picnic and barbecue areas along the route.

Watch-outs

Max: keep the lead on and stick to the track here. It is wildlife country, and a leashed dog is the responsible call.

Be snake-aware in the warmer months, as you would in any Sunshine Coast bushland. Carry your own waste bags, because bins sit at the entry points rather than along the track, and skip the walk entirely in the hours after heavy rain when the low sections flood.

Getting there

Access is from the ends of the residential streets in the western Glenfields area, with legal street parking in the surrounding streets. Bus stops serve Mountain Creek, though most visitors simply walk in from home.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-leash run afterwards, the Brightwater Park Fenced Dog Park is close by on Heliconia Street, and the Quota Hideaway Park dog off leash area is another local option. Cafe Elemento covers the coffee stop on the way home.

When to go

Early weekday mornings are quietest, and weekend mornings bring more local walkers. In summer the shade makes mid-morning workable, which is rare for this part of the coast. Good for calm dogs who enjoy a sniffy bush amble rather than a sprint.
