Dogs can run free inside the signed off-leash area. Everywhere else around the dam, including the picnic grounds, they stay on lead.
The walk
Wide concrete paths link the main picnic and amenity areas, easy going for older dogs. Shaded picnic spots, outdoor gym equipment and views over the historic mining-era dam sit along them.
Beyond the paths, the Gangulu Trails head into rugged bushland on dirt tracks shared with mountain bikers.
Max: Mountain bikes come fast on the dirt tracks. Keep the lead short and step aside when you hear them.
Make a day of it
In town, Wattle Bee Next is an easy coffee stop after the walk.
When to go
Cooler mornings suit the bush tracks best. Bring water for the dog, and save the longer runs for the off-leash area.
