Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve Walking Track

Olinda Creek winds along the edge of the Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve at 45 Tramway Road, and the reserve's walking paths link into the creek tracks beyond. It is an on-lead walk, run by Yarra Ranges Council.

Lead rules

Yarra Ranges Council requires dogs on a lead in public reserves unless you are inside a signed off-leash area. Dogs are also kept off the sports ovals while games or training are on.

The walk

The paths are unpaved, a mix of natural earth and gravel. They skirt the open recreation grounds and pass pockets of native bushland near the creek.

Because the reserve connects to the Olinda Creek track network, you can keep it short or carry on along the creek for a longer outing.

Max: Check the ovals before you cut across. If a match or training session is on, stay on the path and keep the lead short.

Make a day of it

Grab a coffee afterwards at Paperbark Cafe. For an off-lead run, Lakeview Reserve Dog Off Leash Area in Lilydale is the nearby choice.

It suits dogs happy on a lead and owners after a short green walk close to home. Pack water for the dog, and aim for times when the ovals are quiet.
