Kangaroo Walking Track

The Kangaroo Walking Track is a natural-surface bushland trail in Mitchell, Gungahlin District, running along the edge of an industrial and semi-rural zone. Its main draw is straightforward, quiet dog walking close to central Canberra without the crowds.

Leash status. Dogs are permitted on-leash only at all times, consistent with ACT nature reserve rules. Collect and remove all dog droppings, keep your dog under control around native wildlife, and stay on designated tracks. No toilets or water fountains are provided, so carry your own water.

Getting there. Roadside parking is available in the adjacent Mitchell industrial area, with track access near the end of Flemington Road or via Vicars St. The Canberra light rail Mitchell stop on Flemington Road and local bus routes along the same corridor put the trail within easy transit reach.

Weekday afternoons and early evenings are the quietest periods. Visit in the morning or early evening during warmer months to avoid the worst of the summer heat on the unsealed track.
