Minyirr Park

Minyirr Park wraps the dunes and pindan bush behind Cable Beach in Broome, with glimpses of the turquoise Indian Ocean between the trees. It is a conservation park, so dogs stay on a lead at all times.

Lead rules

The park is jointly managed by the Yawuru Traditional Owners and the Shire of Broome as part of the Yawuru Minyirr Buru Conservation Park. It is specifically excluded from the shire's off-lead dog exercise areas, to protect conservation and cultural values.

The walk

Tracks are mostly soft sand and unpaved dirt through coastal dunes, pindan woodland and mangrove fringes. The woodland gives good shade, but the dune sections take the full Kimberley sun.

Water and shade

There is no reliable water on the tracks, so carry plenty for your dog. Bins are mostly at the main access points, and parking is at the Minyirr Park Base Camp and near Cable Beach and the surf club.

Max: Soft sand in Broome heat is hard on paws. Walk early and turn back before your dog tires.

Make a day of it

Cool down afterwards at Mabu Mayi Cafe at Cable Beach.

Early morning or late afternoon is the time to go. For an off-lead run, parts of the Cable Beach foreshore are set aside for dog exercise.
