Marian Community River Walk

What some listings call the Marian Weir Walk is the Marian Community River Walk, a concrete riverside track by Edward Lloyd Park in Marian. It follows the Pioneer River near the old weir, and dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

Mackay Regional Council keeps dogs on a leash along the river walk at all times. For off-lead play, the council lists designated dog areas elsewhere in the region.

The walk

The concrete path is flat and gentle, so dogs of most ages manage it easily. You get views of the flowing river, plenty of birdlife and, with luck, a glimpse of a platypus.

Riverside trees give partial shade, but some sections are exposed to the Queensland sun.

Max: There are no dedicated water points and few bins on the path. Carry water, a bowl and enough bags for the whole walk.

Early or late in the day beats the midday heat on the open sections. It is a calm, low-traffic walk that suits quieter dogs.
