Vintage Kiss

Vintage Kiss operates from the veranda of Melba House at 4 Anzac Avenue in Marian, a historic 1880s homestead in Edward Lloyd Park beside the Pioneer River. The building was originally part of the Marian Mill and was relocated to the park to save it from demolition, and it now doubles as a visitor information centre and a shrine to Dame Nellie Melba, who lived here in the 1880s. For dog owners, the draw is simple: shaded outdoor seating with the river directly in front of you.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating under the trees and on the veranda, and visitors with dogs describe the welcome as friendly and accommodating. The veranda gives room to settle a leashed dog beside the table clear of foot traffic. Bring your own water bowl as one is not guaranteed, and note the kitchen closes early: the cafe runs to early afternoon, closed Mondays.

The vibe

This is a relaxed, historic-corner cafe doing breakfast and brunch with house-made baking: big fresh scones, lemon myrtle biscuits, white chocolate friands and banana bread, plus smoothies and proper coffee. Eggs benedict and waffles carry the menu. Service is efficient, though popular weekend mornings can mean a short wait for a veranda table; midweek is the calm window.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in Edward Lloyd Park on Anzac Avenue near the centre of Marian, about 25 minutes west of Mackay. There is free on-site parking including accessible bays, with level access to the building. Hours are 5:30am to 2pm Tuesday to Friday, 6am to 12:30pm Saturday and 7am to 12:30pm Sunday.

Make a day of it

The Pioneer River parkland around Melba House suits an on-lead stroll either side of breakfast, and for a proper off-lead session the Gooseponds Dog Park in Mackay is the closest fenced option.
