Mycow Accommodation - Caravan Park & Campground Mackay

Mycow Accommodation is a budget caravan park and campground at 106 Main Street, Bakers Creek, about ten minutes south of Mackay. It is not a scenic destination in its own right, but it is a genuinely dog-friendly stopover with a fenced dog run on site, which is rare at parks this size.

The pet policy

Dogs are welcome on designated pet-friendly caravan and camping sites. There is no published size limit and no specific pet fee listed on the park's own site, so confirm current fees and any number or breed restrictions directly when booking. Dogs must be supervised at all times and kept on a leash outside your van, tent or site. They are not permitted in communal areas such as the amenities block or camp kitchen, and owners are expected to pick up straight away.

The place

It is a low-cost, no-frills park on the edge of Bakers Creek: powered and unpowered grassed sites, drive-through sites for big rigs, a camp kitchen, a dump point and free Wi-Fi. The two features that matter for dog owners are the on-site fenced dog run and the waterfront boardwalk along the creek, which makes a decent stretch-the-legs walk before or after a long day on the Bruce Highway.

Max: build your stop around the fenced dog run if your dog has been crated in the car all day, but treat it as a bonus rather than a substitute for a proper walk off site.

Location and nearby

Access is easy 2WD and suitable for vans and motorhomes, though some sites need reversing into position. A Woolworths complex is about three minutes away for supplies, and Mackay's beaches and cafes are a short drive north. If you are working off-lead exercise into the trip, Mackay Off Lead Fenced Dog Park and Gooseponds Dog Park are both in North Mackay, and Mackay Caravan Park is the alternative park closer to the city.

Who it suits

Travellers passing through the Mackay region who want a cheap, secure overnight stop without leaving the dog in the van. Road noise is the trade-off for the highway-side location, so light sleepers should pack earplugs.

Call ahead to confirm a pet-friendly site is available for your dates and check whether cabins are open to dogs, since the pet listing applies to sites rather than all accommodation. Summer is peak season for grey nomads heading north, so book ahead in the dry season months.
