Kommo Toera Trail

The Kommo Toera Trail is a short, flat loop of about a kilometre through paperbark wetland forest near Mackay Harbour, off Keeleys Road in Andergrove. In season, butterflies drift through in their thousands.

Lead rules

Mackay Regional Council requires dogs to be on a leash and under effective control the whole way. There is no off-lead section on the loop.

The walk

Boardwalk mixes with compacted, sometimes bumpy earth paths under a dense Melaleuca canopy. The shade keeps it noticeably cooler than exposed coastal walks.

Allow 15 to 20 minutes for the loop. Parking is near the Keeleys Road and Slade Point Road junction.

Max: Pack insect repellent, as the mosquitoes are thick here, and bring water and bags, since there are no taps and few bins.

For off-lead play, Gooseponds Dog Park in North Mackay is fenced and has agility gear.

When to go

The canopy makes it one of the better choices on a hot Mackay day. Short, flat and gentle, it suits older dogs and quick enrichment walks.
