Longbeach Trail

The Longbeach Trail runs about 8 kilometres from the Patterson River in Carrum to Mordialloc Creek, passing right through Bonbeach beside the Edithvale-Seaford Wetlands. Dogs are welcome, on lead.

Lead rules

Kingston City Council manages the trail with state land authorities. Dogs must stay on lead along the shared path and in the adjoining reserves that are not signed off lead.

The walk

It is mostly flat, on fine gravel and dirt with some concrete sections. The wetlands bring birdlife and open views, and residential streets join the trail all the way along.

Mature trees shade some stretches, but the open gravel sections have little cover. Bins sit at the main cross streets and trailheads.

Water and parking

Drinking fountains, some with dog bowls, are at the reserves that meet the trail, such as Bonbeach Reserve. There is street parking off Bondi Road and near the reserves.

Make a day of it

Bonbeach Reserve's off-lead oval, listed as Bonbeach Sports Reserve Dog Off Leash Area, is a good place to let your dog run. At the southern end, the Patterson River Circuit Trail keeps the walk going.

Go early on hot days, since the gravel stretches are exposed. The flat, even surface suits dogs that like a long, steady walk.
