Patterson River Circuit Trail

A flat gravel path follows the Patterson River where Bonbeach meets Carrum and Patterson Lakes, with views up toward the Dandenongs and down to Port Phillip Bay. Parks Victoria manages the trail, and dogs are welcome on lead.

Leads on the whole way

Dogs must stay on lead at all times along the circuit. If yours needs a proper run, the off-lead options are nearby rather than on the trail.

The walk

The track is flat, well kept gravel shared with joggers and cyclists, so it is easy going at any fitness level.

Parts of the riverbank have mature trees and sheltered spots, but long stretches beside the water are open. Water taps sit along the river and near the main picnic areas, and bins are frequent.

There is plenty of parking by the riverbanks and boat ramps.

Make a day of it

Bonbeach Sports Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is the place for an off-lead run, and Ministry - Kitchen & Bar suits a meal afterwards.

When to go

With little shade on the open banks, summer walks are best early or late. The flat surface makes it a good pick for older dogs.
