Latham Park

Latham Park on Moverly Road gives South Coogee a broad sweep of grass under big figs and eucalypts, with the tennis centre and bowling club along one side. Dogs are welcome, on a lead.

Leads and the off-lead proposal

Randwick City Council requires dogs on lead across the park and the sports surrounds. Council has consulted on a partly fenced off-lead area in lower Latham Park, near Henning Avenue and Holmes Street, but until one is signed, the lead stays on.

If your dog needs a run, Emily McCarthy Park on Elphinstone Road is South Coogee's designated off-lead park.

The walk

There is no formal track. You walk the grass and the sealed edges around the fields, and the lawns connect to neighbouring open space, so a loop is easy to stretch.

The lower south-eastern corner has the best shade from mature trees. Bins sit around the park edges and the sports facilities, and there are general water points but no dependable dog bowl, so carry water.

Free street parking runs along Moverly Road and Henning Avenue.

Make a day of it

Finish with a coffee at The Lion and Buffalo in South Coogee, or head into Coogee for Cafe Rafaele.

In summer, stick to the shaded lower corner in the morning or late afternoon. It suits dogs happy with an easy stroll on lead rather than those needing a gallop.
