Kialla Lakes Walking Track

Water, birds and a flat sealed path: the Kialla Lakes loop runs about 2.4 kilometres around the lakes just south of Shepparton, and it is quieter than most walks in town. Dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

Keep dogs on lead for the whole loop. Greater Shepparton City Council manages the area, and none of the track is off-lead.

The walk

The path winds past the lake water, open grassy reserves and the residential edge of Kialla. Wetland birds give dogs plenty to watch and sniff.

For more distance, join the Watauga Park connection for a longer loop of about 5.8 kilometres.

Water and shade

Some bubblers sit near the reserves, but not along every stretch, so carry a bottle and a bowl. Much of the path is open to the sun, with ornamental trees giving only partial cover.

Bins are at the main entry points, and street parking is easy beside the parks around the lakes.

Make a day of it

Milestone Cafe & Bistro is the nearby food stop, and the Ducat Reserve fenced dog park has double-gated runs for an off-lead finish.

When to go

Go early or late in summer, when the exposed path heats up. It is a calm choice for reactive dogs that do better away from busy town parks.
