Islington Park

Islington Park sits on Maitland Road where Islington meets Tighes Hill, along the tidal bends of Throsby Creek. It has a designated off-leash area as well as on-lead zones, and it doubles as a start point for the creekside paths.

Leads and the off-leash area

The City of Newcastle manages the park. Dogs can run free in the signed off-leash area, and must be on a lead in the rest of the park and on the shared paths.

Max: Check the signs for where the off-leash area ends, and clip on before you join the shared path with the bikes.

The walk

Paved asphalt and concrete shared paths follow Throsby Creek past open fields, eucalypts and paperbarks. Keep going on lead and the Throsby Creek track carries on toward Maryville and Carrington.

Water and shade

There are bubblers and taps with dog-friendly bowls, plus bins and bag dispensers. Mature trees give good shade, and toilets, picnic tables and benches are spread through the reserve.
