Bar Solè

Bar Solè is a small, Italian-inspired wood-fired pizza and aperitivo bar at 173 Maitland Road, Tighes Hill, with a vintage storefront feel and a firm local following. It is also one of the friendlier dog stops on the strip: the outdoor deck takes leashed dogs, and reviewers single out the staff for welcoming them properly rather than merely tolerating them.

The dog setup

Dogs settle on the outdoor deck, which has a relaxed, close-knit layout suited to a long dinner rather than a quick feed. Keep the lead on and the dog tucked by your table, because the deck is compact and servers move through it constantly. One reviewer note that matters: staff were described as lovely and accommodating with a small dog, and the venue itself points dog owners to the outside area. A portable water bowl is worth packing, since one is not guaranteed on the deck. This is a small room doing big nights, so a booking with a note about the dog is the safe route for weekend sittings.

The food and the vibe

The draw is the wood-fired pizza oven: a proper diavola, a kangaroo pizza that has become a talking point, and a short list of gnocchi and focaccia around it. It is BYO, so you can bring your own wine to the table. Hours run dinner only, Wednesday through Sunday from 5pm, with Mondays and Tuesdays closed, so plan the dog walk for the evening. Expect a homely, local crowd rather than a polished dining room.

Getting there and parking

The bar sits on Maitland Road as it runs through Tighes Hill, next door to Tighes Hill Cellars, which is handy if you are doing BYO. Street parking is available on Maitland Road and the surrounding residential side streets, though it fills on busy nights. The light rail puts you within walking distance if you would rather leave the car behind.

While you're out there

For a pre-dinner off-lead run, Islington Dog Off-Leash Area is the local option. The Throsby Creek foreshore path is close by for a flat on-leash stroll either side of dinner, and Ground Up Espresso in Carrington covers the coffee end of the day with the dog.
