Lieutenant Cantello Reserve

Lieutenant Cantello Reserve sits off Stewart Avenue in Hammondville, in the Liverpool City Council area, and its draw for dog owners is a fully fenced off-lead park with agility equipment.

That enclosure keeps dogs away from the bushland edge and the playground, which is why regulars trust it with dogs that like to bolt.

Leads and the off-lead area

Off lead is for inside the fence only. Everywhere else in the reserve, on the paths and across the open grass, your dog stays on a lead.

The dog park is open daily from 6am to 10pm.

The walk

Paved and concrete paths run through the reserve past open grass, native trees and the inclusive playground known as Livvi's Place.

Look out for the plaque honouring Lieutenant George Leo Cantello, a World War II memorial that gives the reserve its name.

Water and shade

There is drinking water for people and dogs, plus bins, and plenty of trees shade the seats where owners wait.

An accessible car park is right off Stewart Avenue.

When to go

It is a quiet pocket of the suburb with a friendly crowd of regulars. Early mornings suit a lead walk on the paths followed by a run inside the fence, and the paved surface is kind to older dogs.
