Haig Park

Haig Park runs across 19 hectares of Turner and Braddon under long rows of towering Monterey pines and Roman cypress, and most of it is off-leash. The trick is knowing where the lead goes back on.

Leads and the off-lead area

Dogs must be on lead on the three main paths running between Greenway Street and Masson Street. They are banned within 10 metres of play spaces, fireplaces and barbecues in use.

Everywhere else, a dog under effective control can run free. The park is managed by Parks ACT.

What you'll find

Paths are a mix of concrete and informal dirt tracks, and the tree rows keep much of the park shaded. There is a dog agility course, a fitness track, a playground, picnic tables, toilets and bins through the grounds.

Street parking is on the surrounding streets, including Torrens Street.

Make a day of it

Try the jumps at the Haig Park Dog Agility Course, then grab a coffee at Clay in Turner.

When to go

On Sundays the Haig Park Village Markets run from 8am to 2pm, and leashed dogs are welcome among the stalls. Come another morning if you want the open ground for a run, and lean on the shade in summer.
