Gnarabup Coastal Path

Shared paths run along the Gnarabup and Prevelly coast past limestone cliffs, lookouts and white beaches. Know the beaches first, because one is a signed off-lead area and another bans dogs outright.

Leads and beaches

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River keeps dogs on lead on the coastal paths and general reserves. Gnarabup Back Beach, from the north cliff face to the south point beside Marmaduke Drive, is a signed off-lead exercise area.

Dogs are not allowed on Gnarabup Beach from the Reef Drive point south to Gas Bay.

The walk

Paths mix sealed concrete, bitumen and limestone, passing the Gnarabup Lookout and the coastal carparks. The Indian Ocean views are the reward.

There is very little shade, and the path takes the full sun and wind.

Getting started

The main carpark on Reef Drive beside the beach cafe has plenty of room, and there are bins near the beach access. Water taps are around the cafe and amenity block rather than along the path, so bring your own.

Make a day of it

Start or finish with a coffee at White Elephant Cafe, then try the tracks at Riflebutts Reserve in Prevelly.

Max: Check which beach you are on before you unclip. The back beach is for dogs, the main beach south of Reef Drive is not.

Go early or late on summer days, when the exposed path heats up.
