Geilston Bay Foreshore Track

The Geilston Bay Foreshore Track is the local stretch of the Clarence Foreshore Trail, tracing bays full of moored yachts along the Derwent River. Dogs walk it on lead, with an off-lead option in the recreation area next door.

Leads and the off-lead area

Clarence City Council requires dogs on lead along the foreshore trail. In the neighbouring Geilston Bay Recreation Area, dogs can be off lead under effective control, as long as they stay 10 metres from the play equipment.

The walk

The surface changes as you go, from wide concrete to narrow gravel. Some parts run under established trees and bush, while others sit open to the weather along the water.

Getting started

Park near the recreation area off Debomfords Lane, or in the smaller pockets near Geilston Bay Road and Sarean Court. There are toilets at the recreation area and dog waste bins at the main access points.

Drinking water stations appear along parts of the wider trail, but a bowl in your pocket is the simple answer.

Pick a calm day, since the open foreshore sections catch the weather. The narrow gravel parts suit steady dogs on a short lead.
