Five Islands Road Pathway

Cockle Creek, mangrove islands and quiet wetlands slide past on this paved shared path beside Five Islands Road, which crosses the bridges from Teralba toward Speers Point. It is an easy on-lead walk with lake views and a firm surface the whole way.

Lead rules

Lake Macquarie City Council allows dogs on a lead on public shared paths like this one, as long as they stay under effective control. Keep them at least 10 metres from children's playgrounds.

The path doubles as a cycleway, so keep your dog on the inside when bikes come through.

The walk

The surface is concrete and asphalt, smooth enough for older dogs and prams alike. Roadside trees give patchy shade, but some stretches run exposed beside the main road.

Bins and water points are thin on the ground, so carry bags and water for the dog. Street parking near the residential entry points, such as around Lake Crescent, is the easiest way on.

Make a day of it

Keep walking toward Speers Point and finish at the Speers Point Fenced Dog Park, where dogs can run off lead. Harry and Lola's is close by for a coffee afterwards.

Go early on warm days, before the exposed roadside sections heat up. The flat, paved path suits any dog that walks nicely on a lead.
