Fassifern Rail Trail

Running out of Boonah through Scenic Rim farmland, the Fassifern Rail Trail trades town streets for railway cuttings and big views of Mt French. Dogs come along on a lead.

Lead rules

Scenic Rim Regional Council requires dogs on a leash in shared public spaces and reserves. For off-lead time, the council's fenced off-leash area is at Bicentennial Park in Boonah.

The walk

The surface changes often. You will cross mown grass corridors, coarse gravel and a bitumen downhill stretch near the old timber mill approach.

Along the way are rolling farms, a pioneer cemetery and views to the Great Dividing Range. The loop from Springleigh Park is rated easy.

Getting started

Park at the Boonah Visitor Information Centre or Springleigh Park, where there is plenty of room. Taps are near these start points, but water is scarce once you reach the rural sections.

Max: Fill a bottle and pack a bowl before you leave town. Out past the farms there is little water and only patchy shade.

When to go

Cool mornings suit this trail best, as much of it is open farmland. It is a good fit for dogs who like variety underfoot and don't mind a longer walk.
