Oxley Scenic Lookout

High above East Tamworth, the tracks around Oxley Scenic Lookout climb through bushland to sweeping views over the city and the Peel River Valley, and dogs can come along on lead.

Lead rules

Tamworth Regional Council requires dogs on a leash at all times here. Keep them at least 10 metres from children's play equipment.

The walk

There is no single signed loop by this name. The tracks around the lookout are part of the Kamilaroi Walking Track network through Oxley Park.

Surfaces are natural bush track, with dirt, rocky patches and graded earth paths. Interpretive signs along the way tell the story of local Aboriginal cultural heritage.

Max: Rocky, uneven ground means a short lead and a steady pace, especially on the way back down.

Getting started

Parking is right at the lookout and picnic grounds, which also have shaded tables and bins. Taps sit near the picnic and amenity blocks, but carry water for the dog on the dirt tracks.

For an off-lead finish back in town, head to George Street Dog Park in West Tamworth.

Shade on the tracks is patchy, so on warm days go early or late. It suits fit dogs that are happy on rough ground.
