Djerring Trail

The Djerring Trail follows the Cranbourne and Pakenham rail lines for about 26 kilometres from Caulfield to Dandenong, and the Clayton section is a smooth, flat on-lead walk.

Lead rules

The City of Monash looks after the Clayton stretch, and dogs must be on a leash along the trail. It is a busy commuter route for bikes, so a short lead helps.

The walk

The path is sealed concrete and asphalt, with new station precincts, urban planting and the rail line alongside. Shade is patchy, with trees and structures in places and full sun elsewhere.

There are drinking fountains with dog bowls at points along the trail, near stations and rest stops, and bins at regular intervals. You can get on from side streets or the station car parks.

The flat, even surface suits older dogs, and you can make the walk as long or short as you like. Avoid commuter peaks if your dog is unsure around bikes.
