Melros Beach Walk

Melros Beach is a quiet stretch of sand and exposed reef on the Dawesville coast, a short drive from central Mandurah, and a popular spot for a dog walk at low tide when the reef flats open up for exploring.

The walk. The route follows the beach itself rather than a formal track, sand underfoot with rocky reef sections exposed as the tide drops. It is flat and easy going, suited to most dogs and fitness levels, with the length of your walk really set by how far along the sand you want to wander.

Leash status. Dogs can run off-leash on the sections of Melros Beach signposted as exercise areas, but anywhere without that signage means leads on. Check the signs at your entry point before letting your dog off, and keep a lead handy for busier stretches or seasonal restrictions near main access points.

Water. It is a beach walk, so there is always the ocean, but be mindful of your dog on the sharper reef sections exposed at low tide, they can be tough on paws.

Getting there. Access is off Oceanic Drive in Dawesville, with a car park near the main beach access path. There is no public toilet or shower noted on-site, so plan accordingly, and bring your own poo bags as none are provided.

Nearby with the dogs. A few dog-friendly cafes operate in the wider Mandurah and Dawesville area, worth checking ahead for current hours and outdoor seating.

Aim for early morning or late afternoon for a cooler walk with fewer people about, and a lower tide if you want the reef flats at their best.
