Grand Pacific Walk

Coledale's coastal shared path is part of the Grand Pacific Walk rather than a separately named cycleway. It follows Lawrence Hargrave Drive and Coledale Beach between the Illawarra cliffs and the sea, and dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

Wollongong City Council and Transport for NSW look after the path. Dogs must stay on lead at all times on the shared path and adjoining reserves.

Designated off-leash areas are separate and often restricted at swimming beaches at set times. Check the signs before letting your dog off.

The walk

Concrete path alternates with timber and composite boardwalk. From it you look out over the Pacific, the coastal cliffs and sandy beaches such as Coledale Beach and Sharky Beach.

Max: Beach signs change with the season. Read the one at each access point before your dog touches the sand.

Make a day of it

Grab a coffee at Saltie Dog Coffee & Crepes, then head up to Bark at the Beach in Thirroul for an off-lead play.

When to go

Early mornings are calmest on a path shared with cyclists.
