Cold Tea Creek Walkway

Waterbirds are the draw on the Cold Tea Creek Walkway, a flat dirt track in Belmont South that follows the creek towards Belmont Lagoon. Locals also call it the Cold Tea Canal walk, and dogs must stay on lead.

Lead rules

Lake Macquarie City Council allows dogs on this track on a lead only. The creek and lagoon edges are sensitive wetland, and the lead protects the ducks and black swans that live here.

The walk

The path is an unpaved earth track, easy and level, so it works for dogs of most ages. Expect a peaceful, secluded feel for a walk so close to the houses.

Shade comes and goes. Some stretches have trees, while others sit open under low coastal scrub.

Before you set out

There is no dog water along the creek, so bring a bottle and bowl. Bins are few near the access points, so carry your bags out.

Street parking is easiest near Capri Close, Beach Street or Ocean Park Road.

Pair it with

For a longer outing, pick up the Belmont-Adamstown Rail Trail, or stop at THE TRADING POST CAFE on the way home.

Go early on hot days, when the birds are active and the open sections are still cool.
