Coastal pathway from Cabarita to Kingscliff

Between Cabarita Beach and Kingscliff, a paved shared path runs up the Tweed Coast through Bogangar and Casuarina, with the Pacific showing through gaps in the dunes. Dogs are welcome on it, but only on lead.

Lead rules

Tweed Shire Council keeps dogs on lead on its shared paths and in public spaces. The signed off-lead beaches are the exception, and two of them sit right beside this route.

South Cabarita Beach is off lead for 1.4 kilometres, starting 200 metres south of Norries Headland and running towards Hastings Point. South Kingscliff Beach is off lead from the Salt residential boundary north to the Cudgen Creek rockwall.

The walk

The path is concrete and asphalt, shared with bikes, and passes coastal dune scrub, paperbark forest and beachside parkland. Shade comes and goes, and the open stretches get warm in the middle of the day.

Bins and bubblers with dog bowls turn up near the main beach accesses, the headlands and the surf club car parks. Between them you need your own water. Parking is easy at Norries Headland, the Cabarita dune car parks and the beach accesses along Casuarina and South Kingscliff.

Pair it with

The path passes through Casuarina, where She Oak Espresso and Tucker make an easy coffee stop.

In summer, walk it early or late. It suits dogs that are calm around bikes, since riders share the whole path.
