Chipping Norton Lakes spread along the Georges River on the edge of Liverpool, and flat paved paths let you walk a quiet circuit with pelicans and black ducks for company.
Lead rules
Liverpool City Council requires dogs on lead on the shared paths, parklands and reserves around the lakes. Keep them out of the water too, both to protect the banks and because water quality varies.
The bird-refuge islands are off limits.
The walk
Smooth asphalt and concrete paths suit walkers, prams and wheelchairs. They link lakeside parks such as Howard Park and Eora Beach, with open grass and patches of shade from mature trees.
Bins line the paths, and there are bubblers in the adjoining parks, but bring water and a bowl for your dog.
Max: No swimming here. Keep the lead short near the water's edge.
