Charles Cane Oval / Parndo Yerta

Charles Cane Reserve, also called Parndo Yerta, puts a paved loop around a sporting oval on the corner of Churchill Road and Elizabeth Street in Prospect. Time it right and your dog can run off lead; otherwise it is an on-lead lap.

Off-lead hours

The City of Prospect allows dogs off lead from 5 am to 8 am and from 5 pm to 9 pm, as long as they stay under effective control. Outside those hours, dogs must be on a lead.

The walk

A concrete and asphalt path circles the oval, passing a fenced playground and picnic areas. The open oval gives plenty of room during the off-lead windows.

There is a water tap with a dog bowl, plus bag dispensers and bins. Parking is on the surrounding streets, including Churchill Road.

Max: The off-lead windows are early and late. Turn up at four in the afternoon and the lead stays on until five.

When to go

Before-work and after-work walks line up neatly with the off-lead hours. It suits dogs with good recall that like open space close to home.
