The Casterton River Walk follows the Glenelg River through town, under old river red gums. It is flat and easy, and the simple rule is to keep dogs on lead.

Glenelg Shire Council allows dogs in public open space as long as they are under effective control. No off-lead area is signed on the river path, so treat it as on lead and follow any signs.
The walk
Paths are flat and firm, a mix of compacted earth, gravel and paved sections. Linking the riverbank and lagoon paths makes a loop of about 4.3 km.
The river runs alongside most of the way, framed by big red gums.
Make a day of it
The walk passes close to Island Park Reserve. Afterwards, Element Cafe & Larder is in town for a coffee.
It suits older dogs and relaxed walkers. Bring water for the dog on warm days.
