Tyers Junction Rail Trail

The Tyers Junction Rail Trail follows an old timber tramway into the forest near Caringal in Gippsland. It is a quiet, shaded bush walk, and dogs should stay on lead.

Lead rules

No off-lead area is named anywhere on the trail. Keep dogs leashed and follow any signs where the route meets park land.

The walk

The old tramway base is compacted earth and natural bush track, and it gets muddy in winter. It passes lush rainforest, damp fern gullies and tall messmate and stringybark forest.

The canopy gives heavy shade. There are no dog fountains or bins, so bring water and carry your bags out.

Max: Creek water out here can carry parasites or algae. Give the dog water from your own bottle.

Getting started

Parking is limited to informal roadside spots near the access points around the Caringal Scout Camp.

For off-lead time afterwards, Rawson Recreation Reserve Off Leash Dog Area is nearby. The trail suits fit dogs on dry days.
