Traralgon Dog Park

Traralgon's fenced dog park sits within Bert Thompson Reserve at the Franklin Street end in central Traralgon, and it is the town's purpose-built off-leash enclosure. It is a single open run rather than separate small-dog and large-dog pens, so the deciding factor is whether your dog is happy mixing with all comers.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with double-gated entry so dogs cannot slip out while people come and go. Off-leash time applies only inside the fence; Latrobe City Council expects dogs registered, microchipped and vaccinated, owners supervising the whole time, and any dog showing aggressive or territorial behaviour to be leashed and removed straight away. Free poo bags have been stocked at times, but bring your own and use the bins on site.

Water bowls and bench seating are provided, with some shade. The surface is mulch rather than grass, which divides opinion and gets dusty in summer, so bring extra water on warm days.

Worth knowing

One open run means a nervous dog can get swamped fast. Stand near the gate first, read the room, and come back at a quieter hour if it is busy. The park fills before work and again after business hours, so mid-morning and mid-afternoon lulls often leave you with the run to yourselves.

Getting there and parking

Free parking sits by the reserve entrances off Franklin Street and the George Street end, and it is an easy walk from the Traralgon town centre. If you are arriving by train, Traralgon Station is a short on-leash walk away. Keep the lead on until you are through the double gates.

Close by with the dogs

The Traralgon Railway Reserve Conservation Reserve runs nearby with scenic walking tracks for an on-leash stroll before or after an off-leash session. For a coffee stop, Gloria Jean's Traralgon is close to town, and if you are making a weekend of the Latrobe Valley, BIG4 Traralgon Park Lane Holiday Park and Montfort Manor both take dogs.
