Camperdown Botanic Gardens

Camperdown Botanic Gardens sits on a hill above the twin crater lakes of Bullen Merri and Gnotuk, and its paths wander through a historic collection of old trees. Dogs are welcome on a lead at all times.

Lead rules

Corangamite Shire Council requires dogs on a lead throughout the gardens. Carry bags, as owners must pick up after their dogs.

The walk

Smooth, well-kept paths meander through the gardens and arboretum on gentle, even ground. Mature exotic and native trees shade much of the way, and the views over the two lakes are the highlight.

Getting started

The gardens are on Park Road, about 3 km from the town centre, with plenty of parking on site and public toilets.

There are no dog water stations on the paths, so bring a bowl and water.

When to go

The shade makes it a good summer choice, and the even paths suit older dogs and less mobile owners. For a longer day, South Beach on Lake Bullen Merri also allows dogs on a lead.
