Camerons Bight

Camerons Bight is a sandy stretch of Port Phillip Bay in Blairgowrie where dogs can be off lead for most of the year. The water is calm and shallow, an easy swim for dogs still finding their feet.

Leads and the off-lead area

Outside summer, the beach is off lead at all times. From 26 December to 1 March, dogs must be on lead between noon and 7pm, and can run free from 7pm until noon the next day.

The foreshore reserve behind the sand has its own rule. On the Whitecliffs Foreshore Reserve tracks and in the camping ground, dogs stay on lead year round.

The walk

The Bay Trail section is a sealed shared path that gives way to sand along the beach and foreshore tracks. Expect bay views, old jetties and moored yachts.

Coastal tea trees shade the foreshore tracks. Water taps are in the reserve and the camping ground amenities blocks, and bins sit near the foreshore and parking.

Pepsi: The bay is calm and shallow here, so this is the one for a proper swim. Just check the summer hours first.

Getting started

Park near Stringer Road or at the access points along Point Nepean Road. Spaces get tight in the summer holidays.

Pair it with

Dogs Head Rock is another Blairgowrie stretch worth a look, and Sorrento Beach Dog Off Leash Area is further along the bay.

In summer, come before noon so your dog can run free. The rest of the year any time works, and it suits water-loving dogs best.
