Kadina and Battalion Trails

Bushmead's walking trails, known as the Kadina Trail and the Battalion Trail, wind through restored native bush on the site of an old rifle range. Dogs are welcome, on a leash unless you are in a signed off-lead area.

Lead rules

The City of Swan manages the area. Its reserves default to on-lead, so plan on the lead staying on for the trails.

The walk

The paths are flat and wide, mostly sealed with compacted gravel sections. Markers along the way recall the site's rifle range history.

The bush canopy gives plenty of shade, and kangaroos and black cockatoos are regular sightings. Parking is near the trailheads by Northgate Promenade and Fortitude Vista.

There are water fountains at Rushmore Green in the estate, but carry water on the trail.

For off-lead play, Greenslope Fenced Dog Park on Leeuwin Boulevard has agility equipment and shaded spots. Scott Street Coffee House in Helena Valley is nearby for coffee.

The shade makes it a good choice for warmer months. Early morning and evening are quiet, and the flat surface suits dogs of any age.
